How to avoid scams when looking for a moving company

The moving industry is one of the fastest growing sectors in Canada. There are hundreds if not thousands of moving companies around the country with over 50 in Toronto alone. With this many companies, it becomes overwhelming to search and find those that are trustworthy, especially because movers often compete by offering deals and perks sometimes too good to be true just to attract your business. There are few ways to avoid being scammed when booking a moving company. Though it's not easy, it's possible to avoid being scammed.
1. Referrals/word of mouth
Friends, family, coworkers and neighbors are good references when looking for a moving company.Since they might have used one they liked or didn't like. Their experience will help you in your decision.
2. Reviews
Reviews on online search engines are also a way to see how serious the company is.
3. If the deals look too good to be true, it probably is.
There are good prices out there but if the price is too sweet, chances are you will be surprised by hidden fees.
4. Searching online
Better to search for reputable companies from trusted sources such as Google, BlogTO, Yelp, and She's So Savvy to name a few.
5. Ask all the questions possible about any kind of fees ( travel time, storage, fuel charge, tips etc..)
6. Always require an email confirmation of your booked move as well as a receipt after the move.
